“What a triumph! What a beauty! 525 Cambridge Heath Road.”

The Mural – The bold colours and creative patterns brighten up even the dullest of days and you can’t help but have a smile on your face whenever you walk by. Standing tall and proud, the colours hit you from all angles, from both sides of the canal and along Cambridge Heath Road – unless you’ve got your head in the clouds (aka your phone) – you can’t miss it!

This is a very proud moment in my Storeys career and one that I hope lasts and one that gives back as much joy to the local community as it does to me.

A huge thank you to the very talented and creative Coco Lom for designing the mural and collaborating with @thelodonmuralcompany for the installation. Coco Lom is an emerging local Hackney-born artist, a true creative with a love for colour and the natural beauty of the shapes and patterns that surround us all each day, inspired in the strangest of forms – check out her insta and you’ll see what I mean. We knew we had met the one from the very first meet.

The Story – Storeys have been managing the building and the residential units for many years and being located in such a prominent corner aspect had been prone to graffiti. Gradually the building became more and more affected to the point where it was beginning to look unloved. So, we began talks with the owner – a long-standing landlord from East London who started investing in property back in the 80’s after starting out his career with his younger brother working in a builder’s merchants in Clapton. Today Neil Bookatz is a philanthropist and takes pride in being involved with many charity events throughout the year including the annual Variety Golf event which Storeys proudly sponsor.

So, when it came to creative solutions rather than painting the building white every 2 years and watching the same thing play out, we suggested the idea of a mural, something that gives back to the local community and offers a little piece of joy to passersby and the residents of the building and with that, project mural was on. We jumped into action looking for local artists that aligned with our story – from the moment we came across Coco Lom on insta we immediately knew, she was the one!

11 months on and the project has come to life and I for one couldn’t be more proud! A huge thank you to everyone involved with this project, from concept, design, planning and installation a huge thank you to everyone who helped make this happen!
