Getting New Year fit in Hackney
Getting New Year fit in Hackney
It's a brand new year and, for many of us, that means a fresh start when it comes to fitness goals. Even if you're just looking for a fun new way to move your body this year - or some motivation to burn off all the Christmas treats you don't have to waste time and money on what hasn't worked before. And if you're lucky enough to live in Hackney then there are many opportunities for getting inspired and getting fit.
What can you do to get New Year fit in Hackney in 2022?
We've been hackney based estate agents for many years and we've watched the area become one of the hotspots for fitness lovers, old and new. If you're keen to improve how you move this year then here are some local ideas.
- The Hackney Half. If you're looking to set a fitness goal with a bit of a build up then the Hackney Half is the ideal one for East London locals. It's a half marathon so that's 13.1 miles - not an insubstantial distance but do-able even if you don't already have much running experience. This year the Hackney Half takes place on Sunday 22nd May so there's still plenty of time to start pounding the streets to build your fitness up.
- Hackney Moves. If you're running the Hackney Half then you're already part of this festival of fitness but if you want to join the local community in a different type of activity then Hackney Moves has a lot of other options. This year the three-day programme of activities is spread over 20th - 22nd May in Hackney Marshes and includes everything from a free 5k run to HIIT workouts and kickboxing.
- Strong + Bendy. The fitness world has gone through something of a transition in recent years, moving away from the idea of 'fit' equalling thin and making much more space for diversity. Hackney Wick's Strong + Bendy is a prime example of this, welcoming all body shapes and offering a very broad range of options to get fitter and stronger, from an outdoor gym to pop HIIT pilates (if you don't know what that is maybe it's time to sign up for a class).
- Kings Hall Leisure Centre. If you're keen to find a local community feel for your fitness goals this year, this leisure centre is just a short walk from Hackney Wick station. There is everything, from swimming lessons for kids to fitness programmes for the over 50s.
- Afrocafitness. Having fun is vital for fitness goals to succeed and if that's what you're looking for then you can't go wrong with these carnival-themed workouts from "the tribe that likes to have fun." They even do a summer gym crawl - a bar crawl but you're hitting the gym mats instead of the tequila.
Hackney is a vibrant community with a wealth of options when it comes to fitness and fun. In our time in the borough as Hackney letting agents we've seen lots of new fitness opportunities open up - and, as long as covid doesn't get in the way again, 2022 looks like one of the most exciting years yet.
