Best Parks in Islington
Best Parks in Islington
London is a city of a surprisingly large number of green spaces. As letting agents in Hackney, Islington and Shoreditch we have a pretty good idea of where to go for greenery in these areas, whether you're looking to sit and contemplate life or get active. Islington may seem like a part of London that's all about urban life but, no matter what your park preferences are, you'll find a slice of nature here that suits. These are our recommendations for the best parks in Islington:
Highbury Fields
This is Islington's largest park and an easy stroll from Highbury & Islington tube station. It's also one of the most aesthetically appealing green spaces in this part of London, lined with trees and designated a Site of Local Importance to Nature Conservation. Sports facilities are plentiful, including an artificial turf floodlit football pitch, tennis courts, netball courts and even a table tennis table. There are also plenty of play opportunities for kids, with a sand pit and a very popular slide. Highbury Fields is one of the few London parks that allows BBQs so grab your burgers and disposable grills and head on down.
Ideal for: summer BBQs and extensive adventure play for kids.
Paradise Park
This park may not be the borough's biggest but it's definitely one of the most popular. Right next door to Freightliners Farm community space, Paradise Park is reachable either from Caledonian Road or Highbury & Islington Underground stations, as well as on buses like the 43 and 393. Play is the big theme here, we love the chess tables that attract a gentle crowd of North London strategists, as well as the outdoor gym, which is free to use. Paradise also has an RSPB sparrow meadow where you won't need binoculars to spot the best birds.
Ideal for: families and chessheads.
Elthorne Park
Situated almost equidistant between Crouch Hill station and Archway tube station, Elthorne Park is great for sports enthusiasts. Everything here is free, from the outdoor gym equipment to the floodlit basketball court and the Astroturf pitches. And you don't have to book either, you just turn up and play.
Ideal for: sports
Caledonian Park
This isn't exactly one of London's most sizeable parks but certainly packs a lot into limited space. From a community orchard through to tarmac ball courts, the park has a lot to offer just a few minutes from Caledonian Road Underground station. But perhaps the main reason to visit is the Grade II listed Clock Tower with its panoramic views over North London. The building has been recently revitalised and re-opened on 8 June 2019, it's well worth booking a tour to climb to the top.
Ideal for: those panoramic views.

Spa Fields
Just off Exmouth Market, Spa Fields is a small but perfectly formed London park offering up a little piece of paradise in the middle of the city. There are sports facilities, including for tennis and basketball, or you can fill up on tasty food from the market and then sleep it off in the lavender garden.
Ideal for: lavender lovers, the fragrant smell of summer.
