Best coffee shops in Hackney
Hackney has become Coffee Central these days with new fresh brew spots opening up almost every month. If you love your coffee - or you're just keen to find new, interesting people watching places - these are our suggestions for some of the best coffee shops in Hackney to try.
Lion Coffee + Records
Enjoy a flat white made from Allpress Espresso 'Redchurch Blend' and pick up a vintage metal album at the same time, Lion Coffee + Records is a pretty unique place to get a caffeine hit. Set up by Mairead (managed Florence + The Machine) and Chris Hayden (was in Florence + The Machine), the store serves coffee with a side of vinyl. Look out for the live performances or just go for the great brew - if it's late enough in the day you can progress to gin, as there's a cute cocktail bar in the back too.
Find it: 118 Lower Clapton Rd, Clapton, London E5 0QR

The DeBeauvoir Deli
If, for you, coffee should always be consumed with food we'd highly recommend the DeBeauvoir Deli - although, be warned, it's hard to leave without buying a lot of edibles to take away with you. Everything here has a local flavour, from the Brick Lane Bagel to croissants from the Dusty Knuckle Bakery. It's a great place to sit and socialise, drink coffee and sample from the simple but mouthwatering menu.

The Haberdashery
It's hard to argue with the number of awards that The Haberdashery has won for its coffee expertise, picking up accolades from London Lifestyle Awards, Grazia Magazine and Time Out, to name a few. But they haven't let it go to their heads. The passion for coffee remains central to the menu and each cup is prepared with care. We love the specials too - breakfast with a hot drink is just £9.95 before 10am.

The Hackney Bureau
The flat white and avo smash has become a weekend staple for many Hackney locals and the Bureau was one of the first places in the area to start selling it. This understated coffee shop keeps it simple, relying on great quality, combined with affordability, to keep its customers coming back. We are big fans of the truffled mushrooms - with a side of avo, obviously - and love the fact that their coffee comes from London's Caravan Coffee Roasters.

Second Shot Coffee
Coffee and compassion are an easy combination at Second Shot Coffee, which is tackling homelessness one espresso at a time. Here you'll find a dedication to great coffee - and a choice of brewing methods - as well as a pay it forward system that releases as many endorphins as the coffee itself. Staff here have been affected by homelessness but are given training and helped to move on to new employment elsewhere. And the coffee is pretty exceptional too.
